The Dutch intellectual newspaper NRC needed to grow. To get more subscribers, the business model of most Dutch newspapers, they needed to facilitate the marketing department and the client services department. The marketing department traditionally makes many actions for long or shortterm subscribers. The options got ever more complex and per region there were other options. With a very rigid system that would be impossible. At the same time the clients services people needed to receive all details as standardized as possible. They again had their own software that is used once someone is a client.
We built the perfect solution for them. Internally it was called the Polish system, leading to lots of laughter. But during the storms this newspaper had to withstand, this system was the most stable part of everything and was reused over and over again. It always got integrated in the different systems they used. It was the perfect example of keeping things simple and understanding how professionals like to work.
